Exhibition What are you making? Industrial and working-class Lyon
PROGRAMMING MHL - GADAGNE
Opening at the end of 2022, this third exhibition in the permanent program of the Musée d'Histoire de Lyon presents the history of the silk industry, which shaped Lyon and its organization of work between the 17th and 19th centuries.
From the development of the Lyons factory under François 1er to the textile uses of today, the exhibition also looks at the working conditions of the Canuts and the social context, and puts the industrial history of Lyons into perspective with the challenges of work and industry today. The exhibition is punctuated by a wealth of sound and video archives, everyday working objects, textile materials and major collector’s items, including the Jacquard mechanism and the ‘grande tire’ loom, the only model of this type preserved in France, which dates back to the 1650s.
