Discover silk craftsmanship "Made in Como" by Ufficio italiano Seta & the Como Silk Museum

“The town of Como is the only one in Italy to preserve silk-making expertise. Two precious qualities are attributed to the workers of Como: intelligence and ingenuity. They are skilled in their art and tolerate no imperfections in the work they produce’, wrote one of the great pioneers of the Lombardy silk industry, Pietro Pinchetti, at the end of the 19th century, after completing his textile studies in Lyon in 1858.”

Como is returning to the ‘city of lights’ with an exhibition that tells the story of how the culture, art and creativity associated with the world of silk have made the ‘city of Lario’ [a reference to the name Larius given to Como in ancient Rome] a world leader in the production of this precious fabric.

In the Salle Tony Garnier, you can admire an exhibition presented a few months ago at the Silk Museum in Como: ‘History of the tie, man’s backbone’.

The exhibition highlights one of Lombardy’s most representative products: the necktie. Until the end of the 20th century, 80% of European production came from the Como silk district. The tie has evolved through the ages, and has undergone a number of changes in meaning.

From a selection of Made In Come ties, discover all the stages in their creation, from the bare tie to its more original inclinations, thanks to the use of surprising materials such as wood. Whether printed, plain, thin or oversized, ties are an excellent way to express your personality.
See you from 17 to 20 November 2022 at the Palais de la Bourse in Lyon!

Silk is part of the identity and the cultural and industrial heritage of our respective cities. Today, our silk industries, in Comasca and Lyon, have strong assets such as know-how and creativity. We have long been exchanging and collaborating, particularly through our professional associations, on common issues linked to the internationalisation of our activities and our shared challenges such as quality, raw silk sourcing, sustainable development and the promotion of silk, the queen of fibres.
